SMR Proposals
UAMPS SMR Project- Idaho National Lab
The Utah Associated Munciple Power Systems (UAMPS) has proposed to develop Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project in Idaho. SMRs, also known as Multiple Modular Reactors (MMRs), are a new technology that has never been tried on a commercial scale.
Tennesee Valley Authority - Clinch River - SMR Early Site Permit
The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has proposed an SMR project at their Clinch River, Tennessee, site. TVA has not chosen a design, but NuScale is the only design currently under development and NRC review. TVA has submitted an Early Site Permit to the NRC (Docket No. NRC-2016-0119). The ESP Application was submitted to the NRC May 12, 2016. The NRC determined that the application was complete on December 30, 2016.
NuScale Reactor Design
Currently, the only company that is moving forward to develop SMR technology is the NuScale Power LLC, Tigard, Oregon. The Nuclear Regulstory Commission must approve the reactor design. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) must approve the NuScale SMR design thorugh a rulemaking.
