Uranium Watch works to educate and advocate for protection of public health and the environment from past, current, and future impacts of uranium mining uranium milling, nuclear waste disposal at uranium.
Uranium Watch was established in 2006 as a nonprofit under the fiscal umbrella of Living Rivers, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. Living Rivers is an organization that advocates on behalf of the Colorado River Basin.
Uranium Watch was established in 2006 as a nonprofit under the fiscal umbrella of Living Rivers, a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. Living Rivers is an organization that advocates on behalf of the Colorado River Basin. Historically, most of the uranium milling operations were carried out adjacent to the Colorado River and its tributaries: Animas, Green, Dolores, Gunnison, San Juan, San Miguel, and Yampa Rivers. Living Rivers and the Uranium Watch Program Director concluded that it was time to create a focused organization because of the tremendous need for an organization that can focus solely on the health, safety, and environmental issues associated with uranium mining and milling⎯the front end of the nuclear fuel cycle. The organization has emerged naturally from citizen involvement and concerns.
Sarah M. Fields, the Program Director of Uranium Watch, has been working for almost 20 years on issues related to the environmental impacts associated with current and historical uranium mining and milling in Utah.
Uranium Watch has an office in Monticello, Utah.
