WHITE MESA MILL LICENSE RENEWAL

Denison Mines (USA) Corporation (Denison) submitted a License Renewal Application to the Utah Divison of Radiation Control (DRC) in 2007. Over the next 4 years, Denison submitted additional information in response to the DRC requests for additional information (RAIs).

On October 14, 2011, the DRC noticed an opportunity to comment on the License Renewal and made the draft License and Safety Evaluation Report available. The comment period was extended to December 21, 2011.

In 2011 the Utah Division of Radiation Control (now the Utah Division of Waste Managment and Radiation Control) received extensive comments on the draft License and Safety Evaluation Report for the license renewal of the White Mesa Uranium MIll, San Juan County, Utah. Various entities submitted comments on the License Renewal, including the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, Uranium Watch (with Living Rivers, Sierra Club, Grand Canyon Trust, and Center for Biological Diversity), and Sheep Mountain Alliance (with Colorado Environmental Coalition, Information Network for Responsible Mining, Rocky Mountain Wild, and Center for Biological Diversity).

In April 2017, the Utah Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control issued a public Notice for the License Renewal, Groundwater Discharge Permit Renewal, Reclamation Plan, and proposed Amendment to process uranium-bearing waste from the decommissioned Sequoyah Fuels uranium processing facility in Gore, Oklahoma. The comment period was extended to July 31, 2017.
