2009 UTAH LEGISLATIVE SESSION

Nuclear Power Legislation

Nuclear Power Distribution and Generation Bills SB 42 and HB 440, introduced by Senator Scott McCoy (D-Salt Lake) and Representative  Jay Seegmiller (D-Sandy), propose legislation that would require there to be a licensed high-level nuclear waste depository to receive the high-level nuclear waste from any Utah nuclear power station and that the Public Service Commission would assure that the nuclear power facility would be economically advantageous to the citizens of Utah. The full resolution:

Senate Joint Resolution Supporting Nuclear Power, SJR016, is sponsored by State Senator, David Hinkins (R-Orangeville, District 27). The resolution provides unquestioning support for  the nuclear industry and disparages the development of clean, renewable energy in Utah. The resolution is designed to be supportive of a nuclear power plant a few miles west of the City of Green River, in Emery County, part of Senator Hinkins's District.
