The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has begun a process of a review and rulemaking for the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for operating uranium mill tailings (40 C.F.R. Part 61, Subpart W). The EPA has established an EPA Subpart W Rulemaking website and will have periodic conference calls with interested parties and other public participation opportunities. Comments and questions can be submitted to the EPA at any time.

Below are Backgound Documents pertaining to the EPA rulemaking that established radionuclide emission standards for radon from uranium mill tailings, uranium mines, and other radionuclide sources (54 Fed. Reg. 51654, December 15, 1989). The records pertain to uranium mining and milling and are only a small part of Air Docket A-79-11.

The documents were scanned from EPA microfiche, and some are difficult to read. Enlarging the documents makes them more legible. Paper copies of these records were not available at the EPA Air and Radiation Docket library in Washington, D.C.
